Editorial policy

Our guides are written for people over 50 who want straight answers about buying gold and silver. This page explains how we make them, so you can judge how far to trust them.

What we write about

We cover buying physical gold and silver with regular savings: coins and bars, prices and premiums, where to buy, storage, insurance, taxes, selling, and scams aimed at buyers. Gold and silver IRAs are covered by our sister site, bestretirementinvestment.com. Every page answers one real question that people ask, and the answer comes first, in the box at the top.

Where our facts come from

  • Rules and numbers come from the source that sets them: IRS publications and IRS.gov pages, the tax code, state revenue departments, state insurance regulators and the US Mint.
  • Warnings about scams come from US regulators and law enforcement: the CFTC, FINRA, the FTC, the FBI, the SEC and state regulators.
  • Prices and premiums come from published price pages, with the date shown next to every figure. Spot prices and premiums change all the time, so treat them as examples, not quotes.
  • Market figures such as past price moves come from published data, with the source and the date range shown next to the figure.
  • Fees come from published fee schedules, and we label them as the typical ranges we found in a given month.

Every page lists its sources at the bottom. If we can't confirm a fact, we leave it out.

How a page is made

  1. Our editorial team researches the question and the sources. We use research and writing tools, including AI tools, to help draft and organize pages.
  2. Every rule, number and quote is checked against its source by a person before the page is published.
  3. Jaynous Kool reviews each page before it goes live.
  4. The page shows the date it was last reviewed, under the title.

Balance

We don't sell gold, silver or any other investment. Every page also says what metal can't do: it pays no income, it costs money to buy, sell, store and insure, its price can swing, and it can go years without gaining value. We never predict prices, we never suggest how much of your savings to put into metals, and we never promise returns.

Keeping pages up to date

Prices, premiums, state sales tax rules and dealer reporting rules change. We recheck dated prices and state sales tax rules every six months, tax rates each January, and any page as soon as we learn a rule has changed. When a rule changes, we update the page and its "last reviewed" date.

Corrections

If you think something on our site is wrong or out of date, please email admin@bestgoldsilverinvestment.com with the page and what you found. We check every report, and we fix confirmed errors as soon as we can.

How we would review dealers

At launch, the site has no dealer reviews. If we add reviews of bullion dealers later, each one will use the same method:

  • Prices: the premium over spot on the same common coins and bars, checked on the same day, plus card fees and shipping.
  • Buyback: whether the dealer buys metal back and how it sets that price.
  • Delivery and storage: how orders ship and are insured, and who holds the metal if the dealer offers storage.
  • Record: complaints and actions on public records, such as regulators and the Better Business Bureau.
  • Sales practices: whether the company uses pressure, deadlines or "free" offers.

A company that pays us a fee is reviewed the same way as one that doesn't. See our affiliate disclosure.
